MK to combine kitchen and garden waste
A new waste contract between Milton Keynes Council and environmental services provider Serco will see the introduction of a combined garden and food waste collection.
Council cabinet member for environmental services Chris Williams said: “As part of this contract we will see in the summer 2009 the introduction of a combined garden and food waste collection to all homes in the city.”
Serco integrated services chief executive Mike Brown added: “We have been most encouraged by the collaborative approach of the council, which I am certain will result in the provision of an excellent service.”
Serco is planning to introduce a number of improvements to the service which will include kitchen waste collections in 2009 and green vehicles, as well as devising more environmentally friendly collection routes.
