Weed control wheely important

Using additional wheel track nozzles is the most useful thing growers can do to improve coverage in the sprayer’s wheel tracks when summer fallow spraying with non-residual, knockdown herbicides.

Information that can help Western Australian growers improve weed control in wheel tracks this summer is contained in the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) Weed Control in Wheel Tracks fact sheet.

GRDC plant health technologies program manager Ken Young said poor weed control in the sprayer’s wheel tracks and adjacent areas could be the result of poor spray coverage, excessive dust or a combination of the two.

“Generally, dust is only reduced when soil moisture is present, speed is reduced or more permanent wheel tracks are used,” he said.
