Nitrogen fertilizer is one of the key drivers producing high yields in modern agriculture, and its use has grown substantially over the past 40 years. Plants, however, are able to use only about half of the nitrogen fertilizer applied. The remainder moves through the soil and enters ground and surface water systems, or volatilizes into the air as a greenhouse gas 300 times more potent than carbon dioxide.
Arcadia’s Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE) trait enables plants to use nitrogen fertilizer more efficiently, allowing growers to increase yields while significantly reducing fertilizer use. Arcadia and its partners have incorporated the NUE trait into major global crops including rice, wheat, soybeans, cotton, canola, sugarbeets, and sugarcane.
Field trials conducted by Arcadia and its partners have demonstrated the efficacy of this trait in multiple growing regions over the past decade.
