Buffodine - Fish Egg Disinfection
Buffodine is used in the disinfection of eyed salmonid eggs and newly stripped nonhardened eggs. Effective against Infectious Pancreatic Necrosis (IPN), Viral Haemorrhagic Septicaemia (VHS) and Infectious Hematopoietic Necrosis (IHN) viruses and there is a wide margin of safety in toxicity to ova. However, ova contaminated with IPN virus may not always be effectively disinfected by this treatment. It is likely that the embryo can, be infected and the disinfectant does not penetrate the egg membrane.

Disposal
- Two important points to remember when clearing up after disinfection with Iodophors, particularly after disinfecting eggs, are the need for
- safe disposal or disinfection of containers and
- safe disposal of disinfectant.
- After disinfecting eggs remember that all containers, packages, etc., which contained or contacted the eggs before they were disinfected are still contaminated. Any container that you want to keep must be disinfected itself. Packing materials should be collected carefully and burnt. Having picked up the contaminated packing material your hands will be contaminated and should be disinfected as well.
