Cooling & Ventilation System

Greenhouse cooling or ventilation can be reached in mild climates with automatic roof vents or gable vents. These systems can also be used in warmer climates during spring and autumn, in this case the mechanical cooling can be switched of to save energy.

For hot climates mechanical cooling will be necessary. The tried and true ventilation method in many areas is still a fan and pad mechanical system. This system will exhaust the hot greenhouse air through inlets and provide a cooler environment by pulling air through a wet wall. The advantage of the evaporative pad and fan system is that it finds it use all over the world, but the system also hold many disadvantages. Disadvantages as, possible length of the greenhouse is limited, the water use is very high, the temperature gradient between inlet and outlet of the greenhouse can be 5 C or 7F over a length of only 40 m. The influence of the inlet air on the crop (less growth) etc.

To overcome many of the pad and fan disadvantages and to be able to design large and efficient greenhouses with cooling, our specialists have designed and engineered the biggest fully enclosed greenhouse in the world, based in Holland. This fully enclosed greenhouse cooling concept has been redesigned to suit greenhouses in desert type climates or other hot climates, against a much friendlier investment cost..
These new cooling concepts make it possible to design greenhouse lengths over 200 m, to design big commercial greenhouse blocks of 8 Ha (20 acres) and more.

For research greenhouses with very tide and equal temperature requirements, our specialists have designed a cooling system with chillers, that can still be energy efficient and accommodate different temperatures in case of a multiple zone greenhouse, per greenhouse chamber.
