Fish Protection Systems
Power plants and other industrial complexes often require large volumes of cooling water, which is usually extracted from nearby lakes, rivers or the sea. In order to maximise the sustainability of these plants, fish protection systems are required in order reduce the environmental impact of their water intakes. Fish Transfer Pumps have the potential to make a significant contribution to these fish protection systems.
In 2008, Hidrostal partnered with screening specialists, Beaudrey, harnessing our joint expertise to develop a Water Intake Protection System. In this system both fish and debris collected on a fish screen are removed by means of a Hidrostal F-Type pump. A two year independent study of the system, installed at North Omaha Power Station in the USA, has confirmed that it has “no impact on marine life”.
It can be seen that the use of Eel and Fish Friendly Pumps opens up new options in respect of fish screens and fish protection systems. Close co-operation with a suitable pump supplier may therefore result in more reliable and cost-effective screening solutions.
