Approvals and Documentation

The International Civil Aviation Organisation Special Provision (ICAO) A302 regulates the transport of live aquatic animals. The regulations require approval from relevant authorities in the countries of origin and destination.  Obtaining approvals can add significant time and stress to the entire transport process. FishPac™ guides operators, shippers and airlines through the approval process for a smooth journey at every stage.

FishPac™ can also assist airlines by preparing the relevant loading instructions making FishPac™ StackPac cargo an uncomplicated addition to any hold.

Training and Certification

To ensure the FishPac™ transport system operates as designed, every operator/shipper must be certified by FishPac™ before shipments occur. FishPac™ conducts training in the operation of the FishPac™ system with a purpose designed Civil Aviation Safety Authority approved DG course.

Regulated continuous supply of oxygen means low mortality rates during transport

The heart of the FishPac™ design is the patented FishPac™ regulator. Oxygen flows from an approved oxygen cylinder through the FishPac™ regulator creating a controlled flow of between 0.5 litres – 4 litres per minute. The oxygen is then dispersed via a ceramic diffuser positioned in the bottom of the bin/tote ensuring the contained aquatic life can be safely sustained for 30 hours or more.

Safety is engineered into every part of the StackPac container

The oxygen cylinder and regulator are secured in a sealed compartment in the base of the StackPac container while high density foam in the walls insulates the cargo against temperature fluctuations. Self-sealing devices are fitted to prevent any uncontrolled release of oxygen. Each container is vigorously tested for safety including tilt testing to 45° in each direction to ensure no leaking occurs during operation.

StackPac containers are purpose designed for live aquatic transport

As the second generation FishPac™ tote, the StackPac has been made more durable with a higher possible payload per container. The container opening is designed for easy filling and emptying and the unique sealing system provides a vacuum like seal around container lid. A in built anti-surging seamist System and gore vents safely maintain differential pressure and no leaks have ever been reported.

Regulator servicing and maintenance

Each patented regulator used in the FishPac™ StackPac containers is checked before every shipment. Biannual servicing and strict documentation requirements ensure each regulator is safe to use and transport every single time.

FishPac™ StackPac: Specifications

  • Carries a payload of 300-500kg of live aquatic animals with 400 - 500 litres of water
  • Container size is 1,450mm length x 1,200mm width x 1,015mm height
  • When empty, container weight is 140kg. When full, container weight is 990kg
  • Containers are food safe and approved by operating airlines such as Qantas, Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, Air Canada, Cargojet Canada and Iceland Air.

A regulated supply of oxygen for up to 40 hours (depending on species) guarantees less than 1% mortality rate, which means greater return for your company on each shipment. Discover Some Of The Species FishPac™ Can Ship for 30 Hours and longer! Coral Trout (Plectropomus leopardus)

With a focus on Hong Kong and Asian markets, FishPac is used by major regional exporters to deliver live coral trout to clients on a daily basis. With product payloads of up to 475kg in each FishPac bin, clients receive the highest quality products on a daily basis. Ease of packing in a short time frame combined with continuous supply of oxygen during transport reduces fish stress and ensures fish are of premium quality.

Blacklip Abalone (Haliotis rubra)

FishPac is used for regular shipments of blacklip abalone from Australia to Japan and other destinations. FishPac delivers abalone in premium condition with no mortality. The delivered quality is such that abalone for each client are pre-packed in holding boxes and on arrival are delivered directly to individual clients from the FishPac system, completely eliminating the need to ‘refresh’ the product by returning abalone to holding tanks prior to delivery. 

Greenlip Abalone (Haliotis laevigata)

In a world first FishPac has delivered 500kg shipments of live greenlip abalone from Australia to the USA, journeys of 26 hours, with no mortality. Live transport of greenlip abalone in Styrofoam boxes is not commercially practical due to significant mortalities. FishPac systems now enable supply of live greenlip abalone to all Asian markets, a boon to suppliers who achieve a premium price for live products.

Sea Perch/Barramundi (Lates calcarifer)

FishPac systems are used for land and air transport of all life cycle stages of sea perch. Delivering fry and fingerlings from hatcheries to farm sites using road freight, FishPac can carry payloads of up to 100,000 pieces for journeys typically of 30 hours. As a modular system, FishPac is suitable for use on all forms of land transport. Market product is transported by air or land direct to clients in all major Australian cities. 

Juvenile Fish (varying species)

Whether marine or freshwater, FishPac systems are ideal for transport of fish fry or fingerlings. Eliminating the need for Styrofoam boxes, packing times can be reduced from hours to 30 minutes. As the gross weight of FishPac is static, transportation costs for large shipments can be significantly reduced as total shipment weight is up to 50% lower.  Mortality rates are significantly lower in FishPac systems. 

Eel transport (Anguilliformes)

Glass eels or market eels are equally at home in FishPac transport systems. Worldwide transport of glass eels for long distances and times are regular operations, an ideal task for FishPac systems. With simple insertion of portable substrate, payloads can be maximised.

High payloads of up to 600kg of high quality product can be transported in FishPac systems with minimal mortality.

King Crab (Lithodidae)

The giants of the Arctic are ideally suited for transport in FishPac systems. Their passive nature permits high density stocking with minimal restraint. Depending on size, payloads of over 400kg are practical, maintaining 100% survival. FishPac can be used for land transport of product from fishing villages to packing depots through to air transport of product to market destinations.
