ITB - Model AIR2 - Poultry Heat Exchangers
From Heat Exchangers & Air Handling
With a heat exchanger the exhaust air is used to warm up the intake air, without mixing the air. The system contributes to a uniform distribution of intake air across the building. With a heat exchanger results improve and the use of energy is reduced upto 70%.

Advantages heat regaining
Heat exchangers do more than just the reduction of use of energy. The temperature difference between outside and inside, and day and night, are minimized. Especially during winter, more ventilation is possible. More fresh air can be brought into the building, reducing the risk of disease. The overall living climate for the animals and the working climate for the farmer will improve.
With a more homogeneous climate the animals will distribute themselves better across the building. The animals are calmer and stress is reduced. In buildings with a heat exchanger better results are achieved, feed conversion is lower, there are less diseases, less use of medication and less fall-out.
The AIR2 tube exchanger
The heat exchanger with tube principle, developed by ITB, is produced completely from plastic. The housing of the system consists of ‘hollow chamber’ polypropylene sheets that are assembled air tight through extrusion welding. The tube packages are produced completely from PVC.
Since the system is produced completely from plastic, it is resistant to UV-radiation, acids and aggressive substances in the air. There is no corrosion build up so a long lifespan is guaranteed.
The mechanism
The exhaust air is sucked into the system with a fan. The exhaust air flows vertically, from top to bottom, through the plastic tubes, after which it is blown out through the exhaust chimney. The intake are is sucked horizontally past these tubes, also with a fan. By cleverly placed sheets the intake air maks an S-shaped movement, thereby lengthening the path the air takes. The intake air is brought in both via a cross- and a counterflow, energy transition is maximized. The characteristics of the tubes and the distance between the tubes in the packages have been developed in such a way that maximum heat exchangement is always maximized.
Air distribution
The intake air is blown towards the ridge of the house with a valve system. At the first purline behind the ridge, an ‘Air Catcher’ is placed. This is a perforated PVC sheet, which “catches” most of the intake air and lets a part go through. The air is than spread through the entire house by recirculation fans that hang on both sides and subsequently every 20 meters in the house.
Cleaning and maintenance
A significant advantage of AIR2 tube heat exchanger is its high self-cleansing capability. The exhaust air flows down through the tubes vertically, condensation assures a large part of the dirt flows to the reservoir in the bottom. The exchanger can be equipped with spraying nozzles that can be activated in fases per segment. The heat exchanger is standard equipped with entry hatches, a high pressure hose can reach all parts of the system. The tube packages and a large of part of the individual tubes can be taken out for additional cleaning if needed. The control chamber of the exchanger is accesible through plastic doors, which are made air thight through rubber profiles.
Installation
The heat exchangers of ITB are installed according to the ‘plug-and-play’ principle. The system is placed next to the building, after which the supplied air channels are installed. Water and electricity are connected, after which the heat exchanger is ready for use.
Control
The heat exchanger can be connected to control computers of almost all suppliers. The exchanger can also be supplied ‘stand alone’, with its own control equipment.
