Construction
The mills are of exceptionally robust construction with a body in thick mild steel plate. The heavy-duty rotor is fitted with large four-way reversible hammers in tempered steel. The rotor has a large diameter shaft running in special double roller heavy-duty roller bearings.
Operation
Grain is introduced to the mill via the hopper. Material flow must be regulated and even, for which a feed control mechanism is required – see optional equipment. In the milling chamber, the hammers rotating at high speed pulverise the material into particles small enough to be drawn through the screen by the fan. Milled material is conveyed pneumatically into the collection cyclone from where it is discharged into a suitable receptacle. Fine dust from the top of the cyclone is trapped by the filters.
Alternative Filtration Systems
The milling process requires airflow to aid particle size reduction and to transport the material internally - for more industrial applications a reverse jet filter can be used, that cleans the air through ultra fine mesh filter bags, which are automatically and constantly cleaned by blasts of reverse compressed air. There is no loss of product in the exhaust air stream, and the whole grinding system is maintained under a slight negative pressure so there cannot be leaks of product at joints etc.
Permanent bar magnets fitted across width of mill intake hopper, or a plate-type magnet with hinges fitted into the feed duct for easy cleaning.
Optional Equipment
Metering devices are required for grain grinding – to ensure that the feed is evenly spread and regulated – rotary, vibratory or screw type are available. Automatic control of the feeder – to match the maximum available load on the motor allows the mill to constantly run at optimum capacity.
Cyclones
A range of different sizes are available from Alvan Blanch.
Rotary Valve
May be fitted to cyclone outlet to ensure airtight connection – either to optional two-way bagging device or to a holding hopper.
Special Versions
For applications such as breaking (not grinding) the mill can be equipped with a specially designed rotor running at reduced speed and arranged for gravity discharge from the milling chamber.
Grain Milling Systems
Packaged plants incorporating hammermills with automatic feeding system and packaging of flour into weighed bags are available – Details available upon request.
