JHacidificationNH4+ - Manure Cattle
From Manure Treatment
In the JHacidificationNH4 + plant liquid manure is mixed with sulfuric acid to adjust the pH value from about 7 to 5-6. When the pH value of the manure is lowered, ammonia is converted to ammonium. Ammonium does not evaporate, and therefore harmfull ammonia volatilization is reduced – by up to 50 % from cow stables.

Plant components
A JHacidificationNH4 + plant for cattle consists of an acid tank and a pump sump, where manure is mixed with sulfuric acid. The plant is connected by pipes to the existing stalls and the manure storage tank on the farm. The acid tank is available in two sizes 12 m3 (21 tons) and 22 m3 (38 tons). The acid container is placed on a concrete foundation and bollards are concreted to avoid collisions with the tank.
Treatment process
Manure from the stalls will automatically be pumped into the sump and mixed with sulfuric acid from the tank. The treated manure is then pumped both in the manure storage tank and back to the stalls to also eliminate ammonia volatilization here.
The treated manure can be distributed directly from the manure storage tank in fields and can increase agricultural output by up to 15%, because fertilizer value is also improved.
Safety and function
The safety and function of the plant has already been fully tested. 2011-2012 the system was tested by the Institute VERA (Verification of Environmental Technologies for Agricultural Production). VERA was established in 2008 in collaboration between the Danish, Dutch and German environmental and agricultural authorities. The environmental efficiency and operational stability of a range of environmental technologies for livestock production have been tested according to the VERA protocols, including the JHacidificationNH4+ plants for cattle and pigs.
