Another posibility is to add an helicoidal axle to the de-clumping machine, this extra axle, due the smoothness of its bristles, can prevent the loss of water from the mussels. The water gush flows out under pressure throught the brush bristles and in that way getting a better washing of the mussels.
To do this the only requirement is to cut the axle and to set up sone connection joints either for the brush or for the original rubber blade axle.
Another recommended adpatation for the very 'clumped' mussel with strong beard (byssus threads) is to add to this axle another trowel extension and an intermediary grader.
Another possibility is to put the brush instead of the last extension of the axle, that way we can have a longer de-clumping machine and with a brush that provides the mussels better de-clumping and washing.
Before the start up, check that the hose connections are correctly set up. In the case of a reverse setting, the machine would turn the wrong way.
The pressure inlet must be connected to the socket (1) which is supplied from the factory with a jack terminal.
Once connected up, to get started, one turns the start-up lever (7). Fill the hopper (2) and then adjust the grading bars (3) with the use of the handles (4), to select the size of mussel required. Move both handles the same distance to avoid the grading bars opening up more at one end than the other.
The machine should be propped onto the grading table, engaging the coupling (5) situated on its edge.
If a greater degree of de-clumping is required, lower the De-clumping machine, shortening its telescopic legs (6), by loosening the wing-nuts (8). One must not lower the machine too far down otherwise the mussels will suffer damage, therefore the level must be brought down gradually to check that the de-clumping is of the required level. When the mussel's vissus are not too tough, the machine can de-clump on a horizontal plane. The hopper must be kept full at all times. When the amount of mussel getting through the outlet is too great, the machine's revolutions must be reduced by turning the lever (7). This way one avoids the mussel being too badly treated.
DISMANTLING
To dismount the De-clumping machine, first loosen the couplings (27) leaving the upper coupling, last. Once the couplings are free, the grading screen is taken off by pulling it out. Then pull on the axle in the same way, but keeping an eye on the starshaped coupling (18) which tends to work free.
DISMANTLING THE MOTOR
To get the motor out of its mounting, loosen the two nuts holding it down and just pull it out. It often happens that the coupling mounted on the axle of the motor gets stuck due to rust, because it is made of normal steel. If this happens, then get it out by striking the motor axle with a rod or with a claw extractor.
CHANGING THE BLADES
The blades on the axle of the De-clumping machine (9) tend to wear down with use. When taking off the axle (25) take care not to strike the baffle (10) because this gets deformed and it can cause breakage of mussel.
GREASING POINTS
Grease regularly the greasing points (11).
