nemycel contains infective juveniles of the insect pathogenic nematode Steinernema feltiae for biological control of mushroom sciarid larvae.
The nematodes are infective at compost temperatures of 10 to 28°C. At higher temperatures, nematode efficacy decreases. The casing should be moist but not wet. Nematodes cannot swim and therefore cannot move in a water-saturated casing. nemacel can be applied by either mixing directly into the casing or as drench using a watering can or sprayer. Sciarid larvae should be present in the compost after application to enable nematodes to multiply in the insects.
Application directions and rates
Treat compost with 2 million nematodes per m2 at casing or immediately afterwards. Splitting of the total dosage into two applications, one at casing and the second after 4-7 days - at latest the day prior to airing - may be more effective. For differences in application depending on the compost phase – please contact us directly. nemycel is delivered on an inert carrier. It dissolves in water and forms a suspension that is easily applied to the crop. If a sprayer is used, clean it thoroughly before use, especially if you have sprayed insecticides or nematicides.
nemycel is compatible with most chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Only a few insecticides have a negative impact. In these cases apply the nematodes 3 days earlier or 2 weeks later. A compatibility list can be downloaded at http://www.e-nema.de/service-en/compatibility-of-pesticides/.
Storage and handling
nemycel should be used as soon as possible upon delivery. Store at 4 to 10 °C (see expiry date on package). It should never be frozen or exposed to more than 30°C. Remove all sieves in the tubing and at the nozzles. Use nozzles with at least 0.8 mm diameter. Do not exceed pump pressure of 5 bar. Mix the solution thoroughly and maintain agitation during spraying to avoid sedimentation of the nematodes!
The active ingredient and the formulation of nemycel are safe to users, consumers and the environment. There are no restrictions or safety instructions for the usage of nemycel.
