Oilseed Rape
From one hectare oilseed rape 2000 litres of premium rapeseed oil is produced. That’s enough for frying 10 tons French Fries or for making a marinade for 50.000 green salads. In addition to that: according to the nutrition physiology rapeseed oil contains the best fatty acid composition of all oil plants because of its high content of essential unsaturated fatty acids.

Valuable feed for livestock
As a by-product: 3 tons of protein rich rape meal is produced from harvesting 5 tons of oilseed rape per hectare. The meal can be then used as a valuable feed source for cattle and pigs. Because of its high nutritive value you can produce 7.500 kg of milk or fatten up 100 pigs to slaughter weight (this is the equivalent to 2.400 cutlets!).
The flowering oilseed rape fields in spring are not only a treat for the eye but also an attractive destination for bees and other insects. The nectar from 1 ha oilseed rape is enough to produce 100kg of rapeseed honey and provide enough pollen to feed 3-4 bee colonies. In addition to this, the fields with oilseed rape feed many other animal species, for example migratory birds.
Best for the environment
One hectare of oilseed rape produces enough biodiesel (rape methyl ester) to drive 30.000 km with a standard car. Furthermore, when a car is driven using biodiesel the rape plant has the ability to convert the same amount of carbon emitted into oxygen and therefore reduces the greenhouse effect or is carbon neutral. Cars driven by biodiesel emit only half the amount of soot in comparison to cars driven with mineral fuels.
Rapeseed oil produced for the use in hydraulic systems is in contrast to mineral oils biodegradable. From 1 ha oilseed rape grown you can drive 100 diggers for one year without the danger of contaminating waterways or soil if there was a leakage.
The oxygen that one hectare oilseed rape emits is enough for 40 people for one year. And last but not least, blossoming oilseed rape fields in May enhance the landscape making it attractive for holidaymakers and for people living in the community.
Oilseed rape secures the existence of farms and rural communities
Oilseed rape is for more than 4000 years an oil and protein plant which not only offers protection and nutrients for many animals but also a provision for the consumer and the livestock from the region for the region in accordance with the Agenda 21. This enables a reduction of imports from other continents.
Oilseed rape has a positive effect in the crop rotation so that the yield from the following crops can be increased. Rape improves the quality of the soil structure and due to its exceptionally long taproot it can tap into nutrients deep down in the soil profile.
It provides ground coverage for nearly one year and as a result of that helps to reduce soil erosion and suppresses weed growth.
