- Groundhog Mechanical Slurry Separator

The Groundhog mechanical Slurry Separator operating principle is based on the proven technology of the National Institute of Agricultural Engineering design for Slurry Separators. The fibre rich solids produced from the slurry can be stacked for easy storage and the now reduced volume of nutrient rich liquid can then be managed more easily than when it was in slurry form.

The Separator is used around the world for gross solids Separation in all types in Industries. Typical applications for the Separator are on Livestock farms, Digestate produced from Biogas plants, Vegetable processing, Slaughterhouse waste, Livestock Auction markets etc. The list of applications is endless (it has even been used in coffee bean processing).
A new advanced version of the separator is now available. The Groundhog ‘Superdry’ Separator will produce an even drier solids fraction than the standard machine.
Low running and maintenance cost associated with a Separator that was designed by us to be as trouble-free as possible to operate and maintain ensures that over the last 30 years it has been the Separator of choice for many Industries.

  • An established method of Mechanical separation with machines still in daily operation that were originally installed in the 1980’s
  • Well engineered robust construction
  • Galvanised steel or stainless steel manufacture
  • Easy operation and low maintenance cost
  • All wet side fixings stainless steel
  • Low power consumption
  • Ability to handle sand in livestock bedding
  • Cam-lock system designed for easy screen changes
  • Spray bar system available for grease/fat problems
  • Large diameter pipework and overflows fitted to accept flows from pumps up to 15kw
  • Automatic or manual operation
  • Frost protection designed in
  • Low speed so minimum wear and tear
  • Auto bearing Greasing system available
  • Spares for BKW and Wright-rain Separators are compatible
  • Total system design service including Pumps, Mixers, Steelwork and control systems
  • Produces 18-23% dry solids in standard model and up to 30% in the ‘Superdry’ model

  • Reduces liquid storage required between 20% and 30%
  • Stackable solids of up to 4 meters height
  • Nutrient rich dilute liquid fraction immediately available to root systems when applied to land
  • No fibre to settle on plant foliage where ammonia and nitrogen are lost to atmosphere
  • Separated liquid can be stored for longer with no ‘Crusting’
  • Up to 90% of the original slurry nitrogen available in the liquid fraction
  • Liquid fraction is more dilute so smaller pumps and application methods suitable
  • Separated fibre fraction can be composted and sold or can be spread on land as a fertiliser to enhance soil structure.
  • Separated liquid can be used in flushing and washdown applications
  • If stored outside the solids faction will

Digestate is a very rich fertiliser which has more nutrient value than raw slurry. Once the Digestate is separated the liquid content becomes an even higher concentrated fertiliser. There are specifications governing the use of Digestate as a fertiliser but so long as the Biogas plant meet this criteria it’s digestate will be regarded as having fully recovered and cease to be regarded as a ‘waste’ product.
