Trees are life, and THRIVE composites represent that life. THRIVE begins life as a pine seedling that grows rapidly.
After the bark is removed and the tree cut into planks for houses and other useful products, the wood chips are processed to remove sugars and glues, leaving highly purified cellulose fibers.
These refined cellulose fibers can be blended with a variety of plastics to create the strong, lightweight, environmentally responsible material that is THRIVE composites. And because the cellulose fibers are highly purified, there’s very little darkening or odor when correctly compounded into selected thermoplastic resins.
THRIVE composites improve performance in applications requiring fiber-reinforced and fiber-filled thermoplastics, as well as filled and unfilled styrenic and olefinic polymers, including:

THRIVE melts and is highly moldable at significantly lower melt temperatures than other composites, requiring less energy to produce and much faster cooling times. These features significantly reduce overall part costs while significantly improving manufacturing productivity.
Lighter weight
The cellulose fibers in THRIVE have a lower specific gravity than other common reinforcement materials yet provide the strength and resilience found in trees. Some manufacturers have reduced part weight by as much as 15 percent versus previous composite options

What’s more, we offer new grades using recycled base polymers, and THRIVE itself can be reground and used again and again without a significant loss of mechanical properties due to the unique three-dimensional structure of International Paper’s fiber molecules.
