Business Analyses and Studies

Customers have a wide range of requirements when establishing new projects. We therefore supply the following: Operations Audit: The evaluation of your current farm equipment and process. The goal of an operations audit is to pin point which aspects of the business are underperforming due to the process and how the process can be changed to be more effective.

Site analyses, Resources, Land, Climate

Good site analyses is a key first step to realizing a successful aquaculture project. Selection for a suitable site is a critical activity and must be carefully determined before establishing of a shrimp farm. Inappropriate and unplanned siting of shrimp farms has the potential to result in production failures, ecological degradation, land use conflicts and social injustice. Thus, it is imperative when shrimp farms are created that due consideration is given to the environment, ecologically sensitive habitats, other land use in the vicinity and the sustainability and economically of the shrimp farming operations.

In aquaculture there is a clear relationship between physical and biological characteristics of sites and the economic and environmental costs associated with developing a project. Although the enclosed nature of CRS does reduce the importance of some physical site features, the selection of a suitable site is of critical importance in the development of a CRS operation.

Major issues that must be considered during the site selection process are:

  • Environmental sensitivity of the site like, mangrove ecosystems, natural wetlands
  • Topography and climatic condition
  • Infrastructure
  • Electricity
  • Water supply

Feasibility Studies

We conduct feasibility studies to help customers understand the financial performance of various aspects of the intended business. Our economic feasibility studies includes the following:

  • Basic design of the farm & general data
  • Total investment cost budget & construction cost budget.
  • Operational costs
  • Preliminary production capacity per year
  • Annual operating expense budgets
  • Income statements
  • Cash-flow statements
  • Balance sheets
  • Return on investment analyses & payback period

The purpose of the feasibility study is to develop the first shrimp design(s) for the client in order to be able to check the required investment and the feasibility of the intended service. The starting point for the feasibility project is the customer’s business plan or basic description of the shrimp project. Comparisons to existing designs are essential to achieve a good result.

AFT has carried out several feasibility studies for different types of shrimp farms around the world.

At the end of the feasibility phase, the customer is in a position to discuss further with other parties involved, and to decide whether to go ahead with the concept.
