Compost Maturity Studies Services
The composting process utilizes biological decomposition to break down, stabilize, and recycle organic material. It is a process that produces increased levels of microorganisms, pathogens, and heat. The same process uses the microorganism to break down available organic matter to reduce mass and volume, condition the soil, improve nutrient qualities, and decrease pollutants. The heat acts as a control mechanism to kill the available pathogens, kill viable plant and weed seed, and reduce odour. To ensure the compost has reached maturity a series of test are performed to gauge the level of activity in the pile. Other terrestrial bioassays are performed to ensure the environmental quality of the compost. Compost that is not mature can compete with other organisms to strip the available nutrients and oxygen needed for their growth.
