Endotoxins

0

Endotoxins are composed of lipopolysaccharides. These are released from the outer membrane of gram negative organisms when degradation occurs. Endotoxins are capable of disrupting the body metabolism thereby causing shock and in rare cases death. Fecal contamination due to sewer backup is a primary source of concern as are cotton mills, agricultural workplaces, biosludge plants and wastewater treatment plants.
