IPPC (Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control) is a regulatory system to ensure that industry adopts an integrated approach to pollution control to achieve a high level of protection for the environment and human health. The regulatory regime is enforced by local authorities and the Environment Agency in the UK and the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency in Scotland. The main aim of the Environmental Permit regulations is to authorize industrial processes which could have a significant impact on the environment. Most recently the legislation now brings the particular sectors of the waste industry into the same regulations.
Services to Local Authorities
IPPC is one of the most demanding disciplines on local authority environmental health departments in terms of technical expertise required to produce Permits, interpret detailed Process Guidance Notes and to efficiently and effectively inspect complex industrial processes. IPPC Consultants specialise in providing a contract service to local authorities for the inspection, risk rating and permitting of Prescribed Processed IPPC Consultants Ltd can provide the complete solution to Local Authorities in dealing with LAPPC and LA-IPPC With over 20 years experience of working in the pollution control field IPPC Consultants have an excellent expertise in the regulation of Prescribed Processes from Part One of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 through to the Environmental Permitting Regulations 2010 and the Solvent Emissions Directive. Our unique experience means that we have dealt with a vast variety of different industrial processes from ship building and semiconductor manufacture through to printing, incinerators, foundries, quarrying and petrol filling stations. Permits have been written for A2 Foundries, A2 Rendering, A2 Coating, A2 automotive production and A2 galvanising.
Inspection contracts have been delivered to local authorities which include updating computer records of inspections, risk scoring, inspection reports and public registers. Projects have also included complaint investigation, BAT determination and permit reviews. Services provided are at a percentage of the DEFRA fees received making it cost effective to out source the work. A typical routine inspection of a Part B process can be delivered from £130 per inspection including written letters, inspection report and risk score.

Many businesses, including heavy industry, combustion plants, mineral extraction, users of high volumes of solvent, and some intensive farm operations, are liable under Environmental Permit regulations to apply for a permit to operate their process.
IPPC is a very onerous task which requires the Operator to demonstrate that Best Available Techniques (BAT) are employed at the installation. Undertaking this job can be a time-consuming endeavor which can be a major distraction to a company and is therefore best outsourced to a competent consultant.
IPPC Consultants Ltd have successfully completed permit applications and variations for several sites, including printing, metal coating, minerals, animal rendering, speciality chemicals and treatment of medical waste. We will work with clients throughout the application process from the preliminary assessments, site survey and information/data collection to the submission of the completed application to the regulator authority.
