Landscape Ecology
From Landscape and Place-Making
Landscape ecology is an inter-disciplinary science that aids understanding of ecosystems: their geographical patterns, interactions and the natural processes that take place within them. It looks at how the geography of a landscape affects ecological processes, such as the distribution and flow of energy, materials and organisms, as well as the behaviour and function of the landscape as a whole. Our team has many years experience in using the principles of landscape ecology to develop strategies for managing habitats and ecological networks (or green infrastructure). We have expertise in using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to support landscape-scale planning and decision-making. We are also closely involved with the International Association for Landscape Ecology (IALE), which ensures our work is informed by best practice from across the UK and overseas.
