The International Association for Impact Assessment exists to improve and better inform the decision-making of today that has environmental consequences for tomorrow. IAIA is a multi-disciplinary organization for environmental practitioners and interested participants from all sectors: government, industry, training, research, consultancies and community bases. A primary purpose of IAIA is developing international and local capacity to make wise decisions regarding the anticipation, management and planning of environmental change. Considering ecological and human consequences is essential to enhance the quality of life for all.
Who Should Join
Sections
IAIA Sections provide opportunities for IAIA members with mutual interests to share experiences and discuss ideas in an informal setting. Sections provide a forum for active topical debate and for development and promotion of good practice. Members can join the following sections:

Full IAIA membership for individuals. Rates are based upon your country of residence/operation (not nationality), in accordance with World Bank economic data. Find out more about the country tiers.

Tier 2 (Lower Middle & Upper Middle Income Economies): US$85
Tier 3 (High Income Economies): US$150
Student*
Full IAIA membership for students and early professionals at a discounted rate (proof of enrollment or recent graduation required). All students pay US$45 per year, regardless of country.
- *Paper Copies of IAPA: The membership categories above include electronic-only copies of the IAPA journal. If you wish to receive paper copies of the journal via post, the cost is US$35 per year.

The newsletter provides professional news as well as organizational items and updates on activities of members, affiliates, conferences and project initiatives.
IAIA has active listerv discussion groups in various fields of impact assessment. New discussion groups are formed as interest evolves.
A news posting service provides rapid transmission of IAIA activity announcements and updates, plus news on impact assessment issues in general.
Capacity building. IAIA is firmly committed to strengthening the capacity of the global community with respect to environmental assessment knowledge and best practice. Through industry and government sponsorship, IAIA has facilitated highly successful individual and group participation in training programs, conference attendance and workshop participation. Additional sources of sponsorship are welcome.

Each year a new global location is selected for the IAIA annual gathering. Recent hosts include Switzerland, Ghana, Australia, Korea, Norway, USA, Canada, Morocco, The Netherlands, Colombia, Hong Kong, Scotland, Portugal, South Africa, New Zealand, Canada, People’s Republic of China, and Switzerland.
With varied and timely themes, great value is provided through training courses, local technical visits, extensive seminar sessions, poster displays, opportunities for building professional networks, and social activities.

An ever-expanding international network of Affiliates and Branchesproviding regional program activities gives IAIA a local presence around the world.
Strategic partnerships between IAIA and national and international organizations such as the United Nations and World Bank have enabled IAIA to achieve some program goals that would otherwise remain dormant for lack of resources. Our external partnerships also facilitate open communication on environmental assessment issues.
