R&D Facilities Services

0

The R&D facilities available at ABT Innovia can and have been used for many research projects related to a range of aquaculture sciences.  The flexibility of the R&D systems allows research at ABT Innovia to span all aspects of the culture of aquatic species from egg to harvest.

Capabilities

The main areas of research which are carried out at ABT Innovia include:

  • Aquatic nutrition
  • Hatchery technology and production techniques
  • Veterinary research
  • Biomedical/ nutraceutical research
  • Systems research

The design of each study will be customised by our in house R & D team to satisfy the specific requirements and objectives as stipulated by the client. Such customisation can include experimental species, culture density, feeding regime, temperature, salinity, flow rate, lighting, etc.

Flexibility

The wet labs are divided into discreet research units ensuring that biosecurity and client confidentiality is maintained at all times. Each laboratory is equipped with holding tanks and self contained recirculation aquaculture systems (RAS) providing high level mechanical, chemical and biological filtration. Multiple RAS can be employed within one research unit to ensure further isolation of batches or treatments as required. All systems are stage filtered down to 1 µm and have the option of continuous UV or ozone treatment. Water can range from fresh to full saltwater with temperatures ranging from 10 to 32°C.

The fully operational research hatchery offers both research and training facilities with complete live feed production of rotifers (Brachionus sp.), Artemia sp., as well as various algae species (Nanochloropsis, Tetreselmis, Isochrysis, Chaetoceros, Chlorella, Pavlova and Skelotonema).
