Sampling for Nutrient Analysis



Taking of samples for nutrient analysis has to be done very precise but can be done by yourself. Most important is that the samples are being taken the same way every time, if possible by the same person. For a good average sample you need to take on 20 to 40 places a subsample.

Sampling instructions soil samples 

When the composition of the soil is variable you have to take sufficient sub samples. The samples have to be taken from the layer were the roots are present. This is for grasses: 5-10 cm depth, for most crops: till 30 cm depth and for deeply rooted crops: till 50 cm depth. Sample in a “W” or “Z” pattern. .
