Simosol - Mapping and Inventory Services
Continuously imaging the earth from space provides an excellent opportunity to take stock of the forest and crop resources, even over extensive areas. We use the open data produced by the Sentinel satellites of the European Space Agency to analyse land cover and forest resources. In cases where even the finer level of detail is required, we use the very high resolution satellite images provided by the commercial satellites.

Service Details
Our land cover and land use mapping service allows us to gauge the feasibility of investment relying on availability of forest or crop resources.
Iptim Inventory offers a precise and cost effective mapping of forest resources. Our solution is built on measuring reference data on the field with a smartphone app that provides not only the measurement data of the standing tree stock, but also an indisputable audit trail of the measurements. For details of the system, see TRESTIMA.
The satellite image analysis that generalises the field reference measurements for the whole inventory area is based on high-resolution optical satellite images and the Probability interpretation method. Probability was developed specifically for forest biomass estimation at the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. All inventory results can be easily transferred directly into Iptim Manager for further processing and planning.
