System selection and design

Before investing in expensive plant, you can benefit from the Wolfson Centre’s  expertise. Use our consultancy service to access specialised evaluations of process systems.

Although dependent on the type and scale of the system under consideration, this type of consultancy service typically begins with an evaluation of existing plant layout and discussions with plant. From here, we would develop any follow-on  pieces of work covering potential issues such as operating reliability,  particle breakage or other practical design considerations, using our extensive range of characterisation tools or industrial scale equipment.

Examples of recent projects include:

  • Evaluating changes in sugar quality resulting from the switching of storage and transport in big bags to bulk delivery by road tanker and storage and discharge from external reception silo.
  • Evaluating levels of particle breakage for a cereal product resulting from the switch from mechanical to positive pressure pneumatic transfer.
  • Evaluating levels of segregation throughout an existing bulk silo and determining redesign options to reduce discharge of out-of-specification contents.
