In this era of PrecisionAg, growers of all sizes have many tools available to collect massive amounts of data about their farming operations – but not necessarily the ability to use that data to create action that would generate the desired results:
- Improved yield for maximum ROI
- Minimized environmental impact
- Compliance with regulatory and reporting requirements
A farm doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It is affected by many of the same variables and growing issues as those faced by farms that surround it. So it just makes sense that the more regional farming data that is collected, the better equipped a farmer is to make ag management decisions. This is the premise behind HighQ’s precision agriculture program. Many precision ag programs focus on gathering information from one particular farm, the HighQ system provides a benchmark for producers to evaluate their farms, their yields and their environmental footprints based on the performance of a huge number of farms in the surrounding area. By putting science behind farm management, HighQ is giving farmers the ability see which crop varieties are performing the best across 250,000 acres in the community. This data, along with the advice of retail consultants, helps growers make judgments on when and what to plant; when to irrigate; when to harvest; and how much and what kind of fertilizer to use in order to maximize results.
Welcome to Decision Agriculture™. True Agricultural Decision Support
The HighQ DSS (Decision Support System) provides the grower with a tool to analyze numerous variables encountered during the growing season and how these variables affected profit per acre. Growers can analyze what effect different input variables had on their own crop production based on their individual performance, but can also analyze the same products and practices on a much larger scale using a “Community” of data. This larger sample helps guarantee confidence in the analysis through sheer volume of data and removal of any anomalies that may occur in a smaller sample. Variable information, such as, Variety, Planting Date, Fungicide application, etc. can be analyzed for performance. These standard type of analysis’ can be augmented with a more detailed, customized type of analysis. An example of this type of analysis may be – what corn variety performed the best after a previous corn crop, planted between April 10th and April 25th. There are numerous different types of analysis’ available – virtually any data that is collected, can be analyzed.
Some of the standard types of reports available:
- Yield by Crop relative maturity
- Yield by harvest date
- Yield by insecticide
- Yield by planter type
- Yield by previous crop
- Yield by seed population
- Yield by tillage
- Yield by variety
- Yield by total of each fertilizer input B,K,N.P,S,Zn
- Yield by Fungicide
- Yield by herbicide
- Yield by manufacture
- Yield by planting date
- Yield by row spacing
- Yield by seed treatment
- Yield by trait
Grower Products
Individual grower reports can be generated at the farm or field level. Performance data can then be compared against the grower’s own community or a larger dataset of community data based on region, weather patterns or productivity. Here are some examples of the many types of reports available.
Farm Management Report
The Farm Management Map provides an overview of a particular grower’s farms and fields with detailed boundaries, field IDs, acreage, roads, waterway and landmarks.
Single Entry Map
The Single Entry Map displays the entry information and path for any selected entry variable that was recorded for the selected farms and fields. This particular map shows the planting path by Variety for this particular grower’s 2011 soybean season.
Soil Type Map
The Soil Type Map displays the soil type at the field or farm level. The Soil Type data is based on the NRCS Soil Survey Geographic (SSURGO) database. This particular map shows Yield in relation to Soil Type.
Moisture Map
The Moisture Map shows the Yield Moisture variability across a field or complete farm. The Yield Moisture variability is based on the data recorded by the yield monitor at time of harvest.
Yield Map
The Yield Map displays the yield at the field or farm level. The Yield variability can be displayed by any of the entry variables that were recorded for the field or farm. This particular Yield Map shows the Yield variability by seed Variety. This report can also be generated based on several different variables, such as Seed Treatment, Trait, Fungicide, etc.
Yield High to Low Matrix
The Yield High to Low Matrix shows several entry variables that were recorded by segment. The Yield variability, by segment, is sorted from Highest to Lowest.
Grower Productivity Chart
The Grower Productivity Chart displays the performance of a grower’s fields against a selected community of data. Performance is a measure of yield against uniformity.
Each plotted number represents a grower’s field as it relates to yield and uniformity. The average yield of a field is displayed along the X axis and uniformity of the field is displayed along the Y axis. Uniformity is measured as a percentage with 100% uniformity meaning the same yield recorded across the entire field.
The higher the yield and uniformity of that yield across a field the better. This is represented by the upper right blue quadrant.
Note: The selected community’s average yield and average uniformity are designated by the dotted lines. The gray box illustrates where fields within 2 standard deviations of the community average fall.
Grower Community Analysis
The Grower Community Analysis displays the yield by the different selected entry variables. This particular report displays the yield from high to low of different varieties.
Decision Support Products
The power of HighQ comes from the community based reporting aspect called the Decision Support System, or DSS. DSS provides growers with insights into the performance of their own crop production practices by comparing them to a much larger sample of data. Here are some examples of the many different types of DSS reports that are available.
DSS Community Analysis
The DSS Community Analysis report displays the yield performance of a selected entry variable. This particular report displays the yield from high to low of different varieties.
This DSS Community Analysis report displays the performance of Seed Treatments. The yield is shown from high to low by Seed Treatment.
This DSS Community Analysis report displays the performance of Seed Traits. The yield is shown from high to low by Seed Trait.
This is an example of the selection screen that allows evaluation of any number of variables or combination, exclusion or inclusion of those variables. Here is shown a query for the performance of corn varieties after a previous crop of corn with a planting date window of 05/01/2011 to 05/25/2011.
These are generated reports based on report parameters, showing variety performance and planting date performance.
