The Precision Farming Box (PF Box) makes precision agriculture easier. The software has been in serial production as part of the YARA N-Sensor since 2007. In combination with the agronomic terminal it becomes an ordinary Windows programme. This makes the PF box independent of the hardware used, for instance when saving and transferring data.Farmers can use this software for different precision farming uses: variable nitrogen and basic fertilisation, area specific growth regulator application and foliage elimination in potatoes.
The platform for practicians
The use of various precision farming applications always follows the same procedure. Job management, data management and workflow are uniform so that the farmer can quickly learn how to operate the system.
The PF box offers three operation modes:
- The online mode translates real time measurements into agronomic applications (variable nitrogen fertilisation)
- The offline mode produces application maps for fertiliser and spraying (variable liming, phosphorus and potassium fertilisation)
- The overlay mode links information from the YARA N-Sensor with the background maps.
It is also easy to access local networks or the internet. GPRS/UMTS- extension maps for the agronomic terminal enable data (application maps for nitrogen fertilisation) to be sent directly to the field via the office computer. Vice versa Agri Con also offers users a long distance function: software updates and also solutions to smaller problems can be quickly and economically implemented.
The PF box has made new inroads into control of agricultural machines. It is available in several languages and can be extended using further precision farming applications, for example fungicide application. The Precision Farming Box was awarded the silver medal in the Agritechnica (Agricultural Trade Fair) in 2007.
