FTS Case Study: BC Ministry of Environment Monitoring Stations For Forecasting Effects of Rain and Snow on Waterways: Predict Flood Risk and Drinking Water Supply
The BC Ministry of Environment uses remote water resource monitoring stations to provide critical data for forecasting available water resources for industry and drinking water and the risk of flooding. The stations are remote and are accessible only by helicopter. This video case study examines the problems they faced when budget cuts reduced staff by 50%, further compounding existing problems with equipment reliability. After the upgrade, data reliability increased, transportation costs decreased and the crew's efficiency increased enough for the reduced staff to operate at levels prior to the staffing cuts. (13:34)
