Kenosha, Wisconsin - Cleaning the mud-free Ecoraster [Hoofgrid] mudlot in six minutes video
Agricultural nutrient removal from a mud lot (winter sacrifice area).
Summer of 2008: Ecoraster E-40 [aka 'HoofGrid' in parts of the USA] was installed in the winter turnout paddock.
Winter of 2008-09: Five horses turned out on the mudlot all winter.
Mud/sedimentation which resulted during the winter: zero.
Agricultural nutrient runoff SWR (Storm Water Runoff) bearing NPS (nonpoint source pollution) which resulted: zero.
Time to clear the pen of accumulated manure and debris: six minutes.
Equipment used for this job: compact farm tractor with a four foot front loader and a six foot scraper/grader (also could be used: Bobcat or SkidSteer, garden tractor, heavy equipment with front loader or scraper or grader, and so forth).
Note also:
(i) The entire area is seeded with grass each spring, turning the 'mud lot' into a grassy paddock.
(ii) Because the Ecoraster [HoofGrid] prevents soil compaction, the soil remains aerobic allowing the natural microbials to rapidly decompose any nutrients: purifiying and filtering the water and recharging the ground water aquifers. more at www.ecoraster.us.
