A Male and Female Pair of Cardinals in our Backyard
Toronto, Ontario
May 27-30, 2010.
A male and female cardinal were nesting in the tree next door. You can see them both here. My wife thought there was a second smaller male, possibly a chick, but apparently the males don't turn red until they are a couple of years old. From about thirty seconds in, you can hear their distinctive chirping (the first bit was shot from inside through a window).
They all disappeared about three days after these clips were shot, so the nesting phase was about complete. We're sure our cats had nothing to do with the disappearance - they all have air-tight alibis, and there were no body bits strewn about.

Canon HV20 - HDV mode
Canon DM-50 stereo mic
Note: I'm not sure how much of the background noise is camera noise. I didn't get a chance to try shooting with a proper off-camera mic.
