Gas Detection Solutions for Fertilizer Manufacturing

Ammonia is a notoriously difficult compound to measure accurately and reliably using standard chemical sampling techniques. The great advantage of the optical laser gas detection technique for quantitative ammonia monitoring is that the optical measurement does not affect the air being sampled – and so a true, undisturbed value for ammonia concentration can be determined. The very high resolution and specificity of the laser method also means that is no interference from other gases in the air (for example, water vapor) – such interferences complicate other optical techniques using IR or UV.

Recycling carbamate solution back to urea-reactors (Stamicarbon- and Snamprogetti-Processing Methods) will be done world-wide more or less exclusively with Körting high-pressure liquid jet ejectors (H.P.-ejectors). Multi-stage steam jet vacuum systems specifically designed to meet the requirements of urea evaporation stages have been in use for many decades now with great success. New developed boosters and vacuum condensers are available to provide an extremely economical and trouble-free operation.

Fertilizers boosting soil productivity for agriculture sector

The principle fertilisers used to boost soil productivity are phosphate based. Monoammonium Phosphate (MAP) and Diammonium phosphate (DAP) are used for their ability to deliver Nitrogen and Phosphorus (both macronutrients) to soil as solid fertilisers. Phosphate rock is the raw material for production and is extracted from large deposits across Florida, the Southern Mediterranean into the Middle East (namely Morocco and Saudi Arabia) and on into Russia and China. To this rock, sulfuric acid is added producing phosphoric acid. This acid is then reacted with ammonia and elemental sulfur producing a sulfur enhanced fertiliser. During this process, the dust produced can potentially reach explosive levels.
