Complementing the long experience acquired, A4F distinguishes itself through its methodology, which includes scaling-up from prototypes in our Experimental Unit in Lisbon to large-scale facilities. Additionally, A4F also develops standard operating procedures for optimized microalgae production, according to production goals and with industry best practices.

Beside the nutritional improvement that microalgae incorporation in feeds versus higher plants may bring to animals health, they are the only biomass material that allows production with daily harvest all year round.

What we do

A4F is dedicated to the research and development of bioengineering projects for the industrial production of microalgae, microalgae-based products, and applications.

We work with different species of microalgae, freshwater, saltwater and hypersaline water, autotrophic, heterotrophic and mixotrophic, and with different and the most advanced technological production solutions – tubular and flat-panel photobioreactors (PBR), open ponds, cascade raceways (CRW) and fermenters – harvesting and processing technologies.

We design, build, operate and transfer technological solutions and systems for the industrial production of microalgae from different species and for different purposes. We cooperate with our clients and partners in researching and developing new, novel and innovative microalgae-based products and applications.
