The method for selecting your pole and net parameters should be a combination of environment needs and comfort.  The example below is a very common setup for clean, slow-moving streams.  The short pole length and small mesh allow for high dexterity in pursuit of smaller fish.  Faster or larger streams would most likely require longer poles and an increased hoop size.
