Benchmark Genetics’ Atlantic salmon product range is the result of continuous and systematic development applied to Benchmark’s long-established breeding programs. Using the latest genomics tools, our products are tailored to meet the specific farming conditions, environments, production models and challenges of our customers, with a special focus on fast growth balanced with late maturation, disease and parasite resistance, and harvest quality. From products adapted for organic production, to ova for all-female populations, and ova from ISA-free segments, our product offering aims to provide salmon producers with the best starting point for a successful harvest in every production system, whether for sea or land-based farming. Our offering drives consistency in supply and supports the long-term growth and sustainability of our customers business.

The SalmoRAS4+ makes a difference in optimizing the production cyclus on land. From our production in Iceland, we can offer ova selected specifically for high growth and significant reduction in early maturation (All-Female), or even completely elimination of early maturation (All-Female/Trilploid). This selection is made with the emerging land-based RAS production sites in mind. These production systems are experiencing less disease challenges, although early maturation of males is still an issue to address. This is where SalmoRAS4+ makes a difference in optimizing the production cycle on land. The product is also available with QTL-IPN for protection against outbreaks of Infectious Pancreas Disease.

Since 2014, Benchmark Genetics has produced Lumpfish fingerlings in Iceland. Based on the previous experience of the company in marine species, the farming of lumpfish has been successful. The Lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) is feeding on the parasite that causes most of the current problems for the salmon industry. Living in a friendly symbiosis along with the salmon in the sea cages, this cleaner fish has become a very important tool in the fight against the parasite. Since 2014, Benchmark Genetics has produced Lumpfish fingerlings in Iceland. Based on the previous experience of the company in marine species, the farming of lumpfish has been successful. We deliver about 3 Million juveniles to the Faroes and Icelandic salmon farmers on a yearly basis. Our lumpfish are robust, with a high tolerance for variable farming temperatures, high survival rates and an excellent appetite for sea lice.
