Garden Waste Services

We offer a free garden waste collection service for City of Melbourne residents. You can book one garden waste collection per month that will take place on the specified Saturday for your suburb. We’ll collect a maximum of two cubic metres (2 metres x 1 metre x 1 metre) of garden waste per household per month. All the garden waste that we collect goes on to be composted.

Food and Garden Waste - New Services

In June 2021 we introduced a food and garden waste collection service for more than 9000 houses and single-storey apartment blocks. This is part of our commitment to improve our waste and recycling services and reduce the amount of waste going to landfill. As the first step in a municipality-wide rollout, standalone houses and single-storey apartments received new kitchen caddies, compostable liners and 120-litre food and garden waste bins. This means almost 500 tonnes of organic waste has been diverted from landfill.

Community Gardens, Street Gardens and Compost Hubs

Community and street gardens provide an opportunity to grow food and plants, learn new skills and meet new people. They range from formal community gardens on City of Melbourne land to street gardens located on nature strips or median strips.

Maintaining Trees and Plants on Your Property Services

It’s important that your garden doesn’t obstruct public areas or put the public at risk. It must also be well maintained if it`s viewable by the public. If your garden can potentially encroach on public areas, you must ensure there is enough room for cars, people, prams, trucks, wheelchairs and so forth to pass.
