Cellars of wine and other alcoholic beverages, during certain periods, face a very serious problem from inappropriate humidity levels, with the logical consequence of the natural evaporation of the wine. The quality and quantity of the wine is affected, which leads to large monetary losses both in labor costs to refill the barrels and in the product that evaporates. Cellars lose up to 15% of the value of their wine per year due to insufficient humidity levels while wine quality is dramatically reduced by improperly functioning wooden barrels due to dehydration. Wooden barrels should be stored in a dark environment with constant humidity levels between 65% and 85%. Humidity levels below 65% lead to a high risk of barrel dehydration.

The food industry and trade often handle products that are particularly vulnerable to external conditions. Fresh foods are subject to significant weight loss due to dehydration. In fruits and vegetables the dehydration rate reaches 58%, in meat and fish 15% and in cheese 7%. The appearance and quality of the products is significantly affected, which leads to corresponding financial losses.

High temperatures negatively affect animal development. The stress they face due to heat and high humidity significantly reduces the performance of the animals, reduces their activity, increases the occurrence of health problems and in some cases even brings death. In periods with a dry climate, low humidity causes dust to form. A dry and dusty environment carries the risk of skin and other diseases in animals.
