The Davis Inoculator is a hand held plastic device designed to rapidly and accurately meter out a carrier (such as corn cob grits) containing lepidoptera eggs or freshly hatched larvae onto greenhouse or field plants and/or onto the surface of artificial diet in rearing containers. The device is simple to use. Researchers have successfully used the device to meter out not only lepidopterous insects, but also arthropods such as aphids and mites. Additionally, it has potential utility for metering out granular insecticides and fertilizers in a rapid, accurate, and safe manner. Different amounts of these materials can be released by varying the hole size in the Inoculator paddle.
