Composting Units

Hotrot - Composting Unit

The HotRot 1206 can be outdoors in temperatures down to minus-20 degrees Celsius. However, as feeding is generally a manual operation, it is typically recommended that the unit is placed under a roofed area for worker comfort and protection in inclement weather. The standard unit is supplied with a bin-lifter feed unit but can also be provided with an integrated dewatering unit for increased capacity. The HotRot 1206 unit consists of a steel/stainless steel insulated hull. A stainless steel central tine-bearing shaft runs longitudinally through the vessel. This shaft is rotated periodically and provides mixing and aids aeration. Aeration is further enhanced by periodic air injection using a low-pressure system mounted external to the hull.

The HotRot 1811 unit consists of a steel/stainless steel u-shaped insulated hull, capped with fibreglass insulated lids. A stainless steel central tine-bearing shaft runs longitudinally through the u-shaped trough. This shaft is rotated periodically and provides mixing and aids aeration. Aeration is further enhanced by periodic air injection using a low-pressure system mounted external to the hull. This system is designed for situations where staff are undertaking other activities in the same general area (i.e. a waste management facility at a remote camp) or where a lower throughput is acceptable. The periodic feeding resulting from the use of a bin-lifter results in a reduced overall throughput.

The HotRot 3518 is the largest single unit and is constructed from pre-cast concrete or pre-fabricated steel sections. Designed to be used by larger municipalities and sewage treatment plants, multiple units can process any quantity of organic waste but HotRot generally recommends plant of less than 180tpd to minimise transportation distances and local impacts. The HotRot 3518 is designed for outdoor operation; additional insulation (winterisation) is available for extreme climates. Locating any feed hoppers within a waste reception building with the HotRot units outside would be normal. Product conveyors can discharge into a storage building or open temporary storage bunkers.
