Hydronix applications

Controlling moisture in grain, nuts and pulses throughout different stages of processing can be one of the biggest problems for manufacturers. All sorts of factors will affect the moisture level in the raw product; how it is stored, humidity in the atmosphere, the variety of the grain and also its particle size. All of these will have a contributing factor in the amount of moisture that either needs to be added or evaporated during processing. Hydronix sensors successfully measure moisture in all types of grain, whole kernel corn, wheat or maize as well as cut maize and flaked oats.

Moisture measurement in the production of animal feed is desirable at several stages during the manufacturing process. With the ever varying moisture content in raw materials, on-line measurement has become a key tool in ensuring optimum efficiency and quality control. The ability to measure moisture and make any adjustments during the feed manufacture process becomes critical at several stages during the production cycle.

One of the most popular feed types for cattle, pigs, sheep and horses is sugar beet pellets. These are manufactured from sugar beet pulp after the sugar has been extracted. Measuring the moisture during the production of these pellets particularly during the drying process is essential. The material leaving the dryer must be at the correct moisture level so that it can be easily pelletized. If it is too wet it can cause the machinery to jam or the pellets to go mouldy during storage. If the pellets are too dry this will result in brittle pellets which will crumble and be unusable.

Hydronix sensors are used to measure moisture in pet food during the production of both dry / kibble and wet pet food.

The moisture content of nuts such as almond kernels is strictly controlled for quality and hygienic reasons. Hydronix can accurately measure the moisture of nuts allowing the producer to ensure that the product is within the allowable moisture tolerances. This maximises profitability and reduces waste due to mould or other moisture related defects.

The XT range of sensors will measure in all types of beans, seeds and organic material in bins, hoppers, conveyor belts, mixers and screw and en-masse conveyors to control drying and wetting processes.

The moisture content of green coffee beans or other similar products may be accurately measured to control the drying and processing of the beans.
