The Autonomous Fish Research System (FRS) Camera by Mohn Technology is an advanced underwater camera system designed for deployment in the rivers and fjords of Norway. It operates with low power consumption and leverages sophisticated machine vision algorithms to minimize user workload. Featuring durable, lightweight, and compact hardware, the system is built to endure harsh environments and lengthy service intervals. Utilizing edge computing, the FRS processes image streams locally, reducing data transmission costs and bandwidth. Developed with insights from leading Computational Fluid Dynamics experts at CFD Marine, FlowFarm is patented in key regions including Norway, Great Britain, Russia, Chile, and Japan, with a pending patent in Canada. At its core, the system utilizes a distinctive design where water intake occurs at a depth of 30 meters, and outflow happens between 8 to 10 meters. Compressed air release, in tandem with the net pen's unique construction, drives a flow that pulls water from below lice and algae levels, ensuring optimal water quality while conserving energy—requiring approximately 10% of the energy compared to existing semi-closed solutions. The design also incorporates a dual barrier for minimized escape risks and compatibility with standard net pen operations. Addressing major aquaculture challenges like sea lice and harmful algae, FlowFarm promotes a balanced aquatic environment, offering improved growth conditions by stabilizing temperature fluctuations throughout the year.
