Culturomics of environmental microorganisms in natural substrata such as plants, soil and water

Most microbes cannot be cultured due to limitations of culturing methods and the laboratory environment. Culturomics is a newly developed technique which combines optimized pretreatment methods, culture methods and isolation techniques that recovers more kinds microorganisms than traditional methods. The company’s proprietary technology, Eco-Culturomics, allows us to efficiently isolate microbes that have been traditionally difficult to cultivate. The approach can obtain 5-15 times more species than conventional isolation and culture techniques. By using Eco-Culturomics, we can obtain more rare and new microbial resources, resulting in more complete map of microbial populations in a given environment. Culturomics of anaerobes

The number of anaerobic bacteria in the human intestinal tract is about 10 times that of human cells, and there are estimated to be more than 1,000 species in the human gut. Their genome content vastly exceeds the content of the of human genome. A number of scientific studies have linked gut microbiota to human health, such as obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, and the response rate to immunotherapy for some kinds of cancers. Our innovative Eco-Culturomics technology has enabled us to isolate over 40,000 strains of intestinal anaerobes, including over 700 known species and over 240 new species. The pure anaerobes are preserved in our standard, innovative preservation technology that guarantee over 90% recovery rate. Metagenomics

Metagenomics bypasses culture methods by recovering DNA directly from the environment and can analyze the ecology of microbial populations through bioinformatic technology. Many new microbial taxa have been discovered through metagenomic approaches, from new species to new phyla, and even new kingdoms. Metagenomics uses high-throughput sequencing and bioinformatics to analyze the diversity, abundance, species community; as well as predict the abundance and function of genes. The ecological function of microorganisms can be predicted from the perspective of gene function.
