Soil Water Potential Sensors

Water potential describes the force that drives water movement. It is the most fundamental and essential measurement in soil physics. A water potential sensor is a solid-state electrical resistance sensing device that is used to measure soil water tension. As the tension changes with water content the resistance changes as well. That resistance can be measured using a water potential Sensor. The sensor consists of a pair of highly corrosion resistant electrodes. A current is applied to the sensor to obtain a resistance value. The readout unit or datalogger correlates the resistance to centibars (cb) or kilopascals (kPa) of soil water tension.

Soil Water Sampler

PSP - Ceramic Soil Water Sampler

A ceramic soil water sampler, often referred to as a ceramic cup or tensiometer, is a device used to measure soil water tension or suction in agricultural, environmental, and research applications. It helps monitor the moisture content and water availability in the soil, which is essential for proper irrigation management and understanding plant water stress.

PSP - Steel Soil Water Sampler

Suction lysimeters collect pore water from unsaturated soil. A constant vacuum source draws pore water into the lysimeter through a porous, stainless steel membrane. Pore water samples are brought to the surface by applying vacuum or pressure. Suction Lysimeters are most suitable in moist soil (tension less than 500 mbar) and can also be installed below the water table.

PSP - Synthetic Soil Water Sampler

Synthetic options for very polluted areas. Synthetic soil water sampler, also known as a lysimeter or soil water tension sampler, is a scientific tool used to monitor and collect soil water samples for analysis. It plays a crucial role in studying soil moisture dynamics, plant-water relationships, and various environmental processes.

Tensiometers

The AIC Tensiometer

The AIC soil moisture Tensiometer has now been around for almost 40 years. The most affordable instrument of its class, AIC holds sway over the Indian market.
