Soil water samplers, also known as soil solution samplers, are devices used to collect water from the soil for analysis. Such analysis can be performed onsite or by a lab. This water (soil solution) contains nutrients, salts, and other dissolved substances that are available to plants. By sampling this water, researchers and farmers can monitor nutrient availability, fertilizer efficiency, pollution levels, and general soil health.

A soil moisture retention curve (also called the soil water retention curve or soil water characteristic curve) is a graph that shows the relationship between the soil water content and the soil water potential (or matric potential). Apogee - Solar PAR Sensor

A solar PAR sensor (Photosynthetically Active Radiation sensor) is a device that measures the amount of light in the PAR wavelength range (400–700 nanometers), which is the portion of the light spectrum used by plants for photosynthesis. PAR is the light energy (in micromoles of photons per square meter per second, or µmol/m²/s) that plants can use to photosynthesize. Unlike total solar radiation sensors (which measure all sunlight, including infrared and UV), a PAR sensor focuses only on the light relevant to plant growth.

Stevens - Soil Moisture Tempe Cell Analysis System

The Stevens Tempe Cell System can employ five different methods to eliminate the uncertainties from soil moisture measurements and achieve the highest level of accuracy. This system uses an enhanced gravimetric method to measure soil moisture to obtain the actual volumetric water content and develop a soil moisture calibration equation to validate and/or program into soil moisture sensors. In addition, the system’s outputted data can be used to develop a soil-specific calibration curve, and to develop an algorithm to determine the soil’s matric potential using the HydraProbe. The Stevens Tempe Cell is ideal for mesonets, climate reference networks, and soil monitoring stations.
