Urban
We are specialist owners and managers in two key areas: the West End of London, where we manage all of Regent Street and around half of St James"s - and in prime retail property across the UK in locations including Oxford, Exeter, Nottingham, Slough and Harlow. Through sales and acquisitions, property development and active asset management we take advantage of a dominant position in our areas of specialism to enhance the quality of our investments and the make-up of the portfolio. In recent years we have made significant progress: our award winning £1 billion Regent Street investment programme has transformed the street into a 21st century international destination; our St James"s properties are also now the focus of comprehensive £500 million regeneration plan; and we have constructed a major £1.5 billion portfolio of commercial assets outside of London, that makes us one of the country"s largest owners of prime retail property.
Marine
Our role is to manage and enhance the value of our coastal assets. This includes issuing licences or leases for aggregates, aquaculture, and cables and pipelines. We are also responsible for marinas, moorings, and have an interest in at least parts of many ports and harbours.
Rural
Enhancing the value of our rural estate through active management, stewardship, and community participation,We are one of the country"s largest rural landowners, holding around 144,000 hectares (356,000 acres) of agricultural land and forests, together with minerals and residential and commercial property. We combine a commercial approach with The Crown Estate"s other core values - integrity and stewardship. Our principal aim is to ensure long-term sustainable performance from active asset management, whilst also looking to take opportunities to co-invest with our tenants and stakeholders, to deliver mutual benefit. Every year we reinvest over £10m into the rural estate. Some of the country"s best wildlife and geological sites are also in our care. We are engaging with tenants and other partners to develop a wide range of initiatives to enhance the environment, and are guardians of a significant amount of cultural heritage, supporting local tourism.
Windsor
The Windsor estate covers approximately 6,400 hectares and includes Windsor Great Park, the Home Park of Windsor Castle, extensive forests, residential and commercial properties, golf courses, a racecourse and let farms.Windsor Great Park, with over two and a half million visitors every year, is one of the country"s most visited tourist destinations. Our forestry team runs a major commercial operation. We are responsible for managing, maintaining and conserving an historic Royal Park, and we maintain over 600 residential properties. The estate stretches from Windsor Castle in the north, to Camberley in the south, a distance of some 10 miles. The majority of the Great Park, and much of the forestry, is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), reflecting the important role the estate has in conserving its natural environment.Nearly all the estate is management by Crown Estate staff, with the commercial letting of properties handled by an external agency.
