The demands on compact construction machinery are continually increasing. This is particularly true in inner-city areas where modern vehicles must in future be more mobile and maneuverable. This trend is also expected to continue with backhoe loaders. The series of hydrodynamic power shift transmissions WG 90/94 offers optimal conditions compared to conventional synchronized manual transmissions both for quick reversing and for driving on the road.

The front axle of backhoe loaders must withstand the highest stresses. It not only needs to bear extreme stress levels, but also has to maintain its steering precision with a full shovel. ZF has specially developed the MULTISTEER MS-B 3000 axle series for these requirements. The steering cylinder is integrated into the axle housing for protection and operates with an equally large steering angle to the right and left. This produces very high manoeuvring capability even with large front wheels.

Three versions of the MULTITRAC MT-B 3000 series are available for the classical design of backhoe loaders with a rigid rear axle. Depending on the model, the maximum output torque ranges from 65,000 to 123,000 Nm. The axles are conceived for high axle loads and are equipped with inner, wet multi-disc brakes which have a high disposable braking torque. Due to the enormous ruggedness of the axles dynamic axle loads of up to nine tonnes are possible.
