the future of compostingtransforming compost“The potential impact ofthis technology is huge –it takes all the guessworkout of composting. Thishas the potential to createa ‘cultural change’ incomposting sites.”Jeremy Jacobs, Managing Director AfORA new beginning forcomposting with the Award Winning CMS2010At CompostManager, we understand the importance andbenefits of optimising the composting process, which is whywe have developed CMS2010 – the world’s first totalcompost management system. Our award winning system has been extensively developed over a four year period, using detailed analysis of data collected from over 15,000 sets of measurements. The CMS2010 system analyses temperature, moisture, oxygen and carbon dioxidelevels simultaneously, using a single probe and custom designed software. All four parameters have a key role to play to ensure successful composting occurs. Knowing individual levels of any of the parameters tells us very little. It is understanding the interaction between all four parameters that is the key, and CompostManager’s CMS2010 has been designed to do just that. How will CMS2010 help you?l Accurate measurements and reporting l An understanding of what’s happening in the composting processl Reduce operating costsl Increase throughput and revenuel Improve quality and consistencyl Comply with regulators and governing bodiesl Minimise the impact of odour and bio-aerosolsl Control of the composting process at your fingertips.“Nothing in the last 15years has made such adifference to improve ourcomposting proceduresand products.” Shorts RecyclingTemperatureControlling temperature during thecomposting process:Understanding the temperature is one of the keycomponents to producing good compost. Inadequatetemperatures can result in reduction in microbialactivity and encourage pathogen, bacteria and weedproduction, resulting in regulatory issues and arestricted use for end product.CMS2010 will optimise thetemperature level to help:l Improve sanitisationl Compliance with PAS 100 (UK) and otherregulatory guidelinesl Produce fewer non-compliant batches.MoistureThe importance of moisture duringthe composting process:Moisture is an essential element within thecomposting process. If not managed correctly this can lead to a number of problems, resulting inimmature compost at the end of the process if toolittle water is applied or a low rate of composting and screening difficulties if saturated.CMS2010 will assist in optimisingmoisture levels to help:l Increase rate of compostingl Odour reductionl Reduce processing costsl Optimise temperature levels to achieve sanitisationl Avoid anaerobic conditions.O2 and CO2The role of O2 and CO2 during thediffusion process:Inadequate diffusion of oxygen and carbon dioxidecan greatly affect gas levels within the compost, resulting in slower composting rates, increasedodour, as well as a potentially unstable product.CMS2010 will optimise O2 and CO2 levels to help:l Specify optimal time to screenl Increase composting ratesl Reduce potential for odour l Decrease production costs.Removingthe guessworkCMS2010 packageincludes:l A unique four-way probel Bluetooth enabled barcodescanner l Data monitoring instrumentl Data analysis software. In the fieldSTEP 1Scan windrow barcode. Each windrow is assigned its own barcode which is read by thescanner. This verifies the accuracyof the sampling and ensurestraceability.STEP 2Insert probe into windrow. The probe will then takemeasurements of O2, CO2,moisture and temperature.STEP 3Three or more readings are then taken using the probe. Eachreading takes around 60 seconds to complete.Once the data has been collectedthe monitor is taken back to theoffice to view the results.Accuracythrough simplicity At your deskOnce the windrow readings have been recorded, the monitoring instrument is thentaken back to the office and connected to a PC to upload the results. The CMS2010 software analyses the results, which can then be viewed very simply, either for the site as a whole or for each individual windrow.Data at your fingertipsOnce analysed, the software will produce a simple instruction for the composter tofollow, directing the user to either ‘turn’, ‘irrigate’ or ‘leave alone’ to ensure optimalconditions in the windrow. For more information on this revolutionary system or to arrange ademonstration, please call 01797 252728 or visit www.compostmanager.comThe totalcompost management solutionStatus Key:Date27/11/201021/11/201014/10/201008/10/201030/09/201027/09/201020/09/201011/09/201004/09/20100.00.40.01.20.00.00.00.60.019.011.021.012.019.029.011.026.017.034.032.030.034.034.033.030.036.034.057.059.061.057.057.058.067.049.055.0Diffusion ProblemLeave AloneLeave AloneTurnLeave AloneLeave AloneLeave AloneLeave AloneScreen2 more turns and7 days at 65°C1 more turns and5 days at 65°C1 more turns and5 days at 65°CSanitisedSanitisedSanitisedSanitisedSanitisedSanitisedOxygen Average % Carbon Dioxide Average % Temperature Average °C InstructionMoisture Average % Sanitisation StatusError Action Required Ready Re-Test96 High Street, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, TN1 1YFTel: +44 1797 25 27 28 Fax: +44 1797 25 27 24www.compostmanager.com
