APPENDIX AFilter Installation TipsThe Airfiltronix HS3000 variable speed blower and filter housing isdesigned to hold multiple filters.In most applications the order in which the filters are installed isimportant to ensure optimum life for each type of filter.Prefilters should generally always be installed first, gasket sidedown. The HEPA filter should be installed next, gasket side down.The use of a four stage dacron prefilter is always recommended inapplications where a HEPA filter is installed. The Dacron prefilteris much less expensive than a HEPA filter and prevents prematurereplacement of the filter due to accumulated room dust, reservingthe HEPA filter for particles smaller than 6 microns.Activated carbon filters should generally always be installed after aHEPA or Dacron prefilter to avoid clogging of the HEPA filter withcarbon dust. This would not be true in clean room applicationswhere it is desirable to prevent carbon dust from contaminating theroom. In such applications the carbon filters should be installedfirst, then the dacron prefilter, followed by the HEPA filter.
