Hi-Spec Engineering was established by brothers John, Mike, Henry, and the late Tom Nolan, as the 1980s drew to a close.

The business grew quite rapidly, with Tom, in particular, spearheading the drive to build up a strong dealership network across Ireland and beyond. The main focus in those early days was on engineering for farm sheds and, of course, the famous Hi-Spec slurry tanker revolution.

Hi-Spec Engineering was innovative right from the beginning, playing its part in revolutionising how slurry tankers function and look in Ireland, by introducing high-performance cylindrical machines to the market.

Right from the beginning, there was a steadfast focus on research and development to automate the most time-consuming tasks that farmers faced on a day-to-day and seasonal basis. The Nolan brothers had a thorough understanding of the agriculture sector. They always strived to make working life easier on farms, while increasing gains in livestock, lowering labour costs, and boosting profitability.

As the years progressed, so did the family business, adding more and more technologically innovative products to its offering, including muck spreaders; slurry pumps; vertical feeders; demountable; applicators such as dribble bars and trailing shoes; and, more recently, the unique Hi-Spec Kompactor multipurpose trailer range.

Hi-Spec Engineering’s real strength throughout the decades has been the people working in the business. The entire team’s dedication to engineering excellence and commitment, while consistently providing the highest levels of personalised customer service, has made Hi-Spec the successful brand it is today.

Many of those who started with the company in 1988 remain in the business today. That pedigree of expertise, skill, experience, and knowledge of the agricultural sector, continues to drive the business forward with new innovations and methods to drive farming productivity.

Today, more than 50 people are employed in the business, which still has its headquarters in Bagenalstown, Co Carlow, where it designs and manufactures all its products.

1988 | The Beginning

Founded in 1988, Hi-Spec entered the industry with a distinct focus. Specialising in producing and selling Manure spreaders and Slurry tankers, we dedicated our efforts to these vital agricultural tools as our main production focus during these years.

1993 | Launch of Mixmax

The Mixmax paddle feeder launched. This has become an essential piece of farm machinery as it dramatically reduces farm labour and boosts animal nutrition, resulting in lower costs, saved time, improved gains and overall farm profitability.

2000 | Factory Expansion

Hi-Spec Engineering factory is doubled in size due to a major investment to help meet an ever-growing demand for high-quality, high-value farm machinery.

2001 | Launch of Vertical Feeder

Launching the vertical feeder range helped dramatically reduce labour costs and improve time management on farms of all sizes. A key success was the development of vertical augers for use with lower horsepower tractors.

2007 | Launch of XCEL

The launch of the XCEL rear discharge spreader heralded a whole new era of precision manure-spreading management. The XCEL muck spreader won the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society (Royal Welsh Show) award for Innovation for incorporating its patented and groundbreaking rear chain flail system.

2016 | Launch of Hi-Spec Kompactor

Hi-Spec entered the trailer market with the Kompactor – a multipurpose trailer. The Kompactor’s unique compaction and ‘push’ off-loading mechanism makes it perfect for transporting and easily off-loading any material.

2019 | Launch of Trailing Shoe

The Hi-Spec team wanted to improve existing trailing shoes offered by other manufacturers. So, the design engineers came up with the unique, high-performance Trail-S to complement the company’s world-renowned Hi-Spec tanker range.

2022 | Launch of Dribble Bar

Hi-Spec launched its very own Dribble Bar. Having previously offered third-party dribble bars, HI-Spec’s design engineers identified several improvements and innovated to deliver the ultimate dribble bar. In particular, it is chassis-mounted and extremely lightweight.

2022 | Launch of Macerator

Hi-Spec developed its very own macerator in tandem with the chassis-mounted dribble bars. Following its trailing shoe’s introduction, it offered a one-stop solution for slurry tankers and low-emission applicators.
