The tradition of family farmsbeing passed down from onegeneration to the next is clearlyan American tradition. Today, it is not unusual to havethe 5th and 6th generations of afamily tilling the same soil astheir forebearers, with dramati-cally different equipment. At Merritt, our latest model iscalled the HERITAGE. We named it in honor of those descendents who are carrying the torch, the “Stewards of the Land”.Our relationship to agriculture at Merritt Equipment Co. was started in 1951 by Everett Lee Merritt, Sr. The primary goal then was the same as it is today: to provide lightweight, innovative, high-qualitytrailers to farmers, ranchers, and truckers.From 1951, when grain beds and cattle trailers were constructed of wood and steel to 1972 whenour first aluminum sided trailers rolled out of the factory, we have been part of the increased production efficiency that has helped transform the American farmer into today’s agri-business-man. Over the years, we have stayed the course, manufacturing trailers designed for hauling grainand livestock exclusively.The legacy continues at Merritt Equipment Co. today as the fourth generation of the Merritt family is involved in the daily management of this family business, celebrating its 60th year in business.
