At F.P. Bourgault Tillage Tools Ltd. we are fortunate to have a broad depth of leaders and talents on our Board of Directors and on our Management Team. We do our best to lead and manage our Company based on a Clear Vision, Mission, Core Values and Principles which we agree is the Direction we choose to travel, to create a brighter future, a healthier, happier and more prosperous future for our Farm Customers, our Dealers, our Distributors, our Suppliers and as well as for our Company Associates.More than 25 years ago, from our own expertise in tillage and seeding equipment and from our own farming and hands on field experience, we realized that any tillage or seeding unit was only as good as the tillage and seeding tool openers being used on that machine. In the early and mid 1980’s we recognized the serious problems and limitations with the exist-ing tillage and seeding tool openers. We realized that leadership and innovation was sore-ly lacking in the research and development of tillage and seeding tools. Beginning with the innovations of the parallel wing sweep and the quick change knife tips, for more than 25 years Bourgault Tillage Tools has been providing leadership and innova-tions in the tillage and seeding tools industry. Today, we continue to innovate, in order to provide you, our Farm Customer, with the most innovative and highest quality tillage and seeding tools, and we look forward to continue serving you into the future. The end-user has the responsibility to make sure the machine is best suited to the operating conditions. Trip strength is an important consideration. When it comes to trips, heavier is not necessarily better Buying a seeding machine with heavier trips than required for proper penetration, may result in: • Broken or damaged seed openers • Broken or bent shanks • More rocks being pulled to the surface Proper trip strength will save you time and money. When determining the appropriate trip strength, some factors to consider are: soil type, amount of rock and type of seed opener used. Some people believe a heavy trip is a "one size fits all" scenario. This is simply not true. Take the time and make sure you get a machine with appropriate trip strength for your farming operation.Bourgault Tillage Tools reserves the right to limit warranty claims on trip strengths greater than 400 pounds.Warranty TermsWarranty is limited to the replacement of the failed part and does not cover any consequential damages. To obtain warranty, the part must be returned to the dealer. Because Speed-LocTM provides more benefits than any other systemConsistent depth control: The upper stop on the Speed-LocTM adapters ensures that your tillage or seeding tools are always running at the same depth. Whether you are direct seeding with an air drill or tilling the soil for seedbed preparation, consistent depth is critical for the uniform emergence of your crop. Peace of mind: When the tools are properly installed on the adapters you don’t have to worry about them falling off in the field. The spring-loaded locking pin ensures that the tools will stay securely in place in all conditions, and we back that up with a 100% guarantee. If you ever lose one of our Speed-LocTM products in the field we will replace it free of charge, no questions asked. Years of trouble-free operation: The Speed-LocTM adapters are designed with durability in mind. The cast adapters are heat treated for increased strength and wear resistance. The pins and bushings are manufactured from stainless steel which is heat treated. The locking mechanism will not rust or corrode. The spring which is a solid plug is housed inside the sealed bushing which prevents soil from seizing up the locking pin. 8 BTTSpeed-LocTM8www.tillagetools.comBelow is an example of both our 200 and 410 series Speed LocTM adapters. Generally, the packer wheel width should be equal to or greater than the width of the tip on the opener. The ideal result is to have an uniform depth of firm soil over the full seed row. The Replaceable TipOne of our most popular innovations is the Replaceable Tip. The tongue and groove configuration allows customers to change tips as they wear out, instead of the whole opener. You can also change tip sizes if conditions change in your operation. There are several things to keep in mind when changing or installing new tips: Seedbed WidthIdeal Packer WidthBefore installing new tip, clean off the tongue of the holder of any rust or debris with a wire brush. Always use an Anti-Seize product on the tongue of the holder prior to installing the tip. If a worn out tip is seized on the tongue, you can use a 3 pound hammer on one of the sides to break the side wall. Always wear safety glassesWhen installing new tips it is important to use a new bolt and nut combination. Over torquing will result in difficulty when removing. Torque to 84 in/lbs or 7ft/lbs.When installing knife on Speed-Loc adapter, always use the correct driver.22Single-Shoot KnivesBTTSeedingSeed Delivery – The seed is delivered through a round tube that accepts 1-1/4” (31 mm) OD and 1-1/8” (28 mm) air hose. FERTILIZER SOURCE – depending on the type of fertilizer used, damage can occur either through ammonia toxicity or salt effects or a combination of both as in the case with blended fertilizer.2. FERTILIZER RATES – typically, the risk of crop seedling injury increases with higher rates of fertilizer. 3. CROP TYPE – crops vary in their ability to tolerate seed-placed fertilizer, with cereals being able to withstand more than oilseeds and pulses falling somewhere in between.4. SEED QUALITY – with everything else equal, seed with poor vigor will suffer more damage from seed-placed fertilizer than seeds with high vigor. If seed vigor is questionable, have it tested. 5. SOIL MOISTURE – with soil at or near saturation point, the toxic effects of fertilizer are diluted so seeds can germinate & develop with few problems. If conditions are very dry, reduce the amount of fertilizer placed near the seed.6. SOIL TEXTURE – fine textured soils such as clay or clay loam tend to also reduce these toxic effects over coarse or sandy soils because of their ability to hold more water & absorb toxic free ammonia.7. ORGANIC MATTER – higher levels of organic matter (OM) in a soil also lessen the risk of damage. For example, reduced levels of OM on dry, eroded hilltops seedlings are more prone to injury.8. SEEDBED UTILIZATION – or SBU is the proportion of the seedbed used for seed & fertilizer placement. Ex: 2”openers on 10” row spacing have a SBU of 20%. As SBU increases, the crops tolerance to higher rates of seed-placed fertilizer increases.9. SEEDING DEPTH, PACKING & SPEED – these points are also factors to take into consideration as they may compromise seed & fertilizer placement as well as the overall quality of the seeding operation. 10. ADVERSE SEEDING CONDITIONS – excessively wet or dry soil at time of seeding can cause erratic seed placement, poor seed-to-soil contact and poor separation which will also affect the amounts of seed placed fertilizer you can apply. If any of the above conditions are less than ideal, it is advisable to reduce your fertilizer rate accordingly.** It is our company’s policy not to recommend or endorse specific “safe” rates of fertilizer for multi-shoot openers due to the wide variance in the PRECAUTIONS & RISK FACTORS listed above. Most of our knives are tested at independent research facilities to verify only the placement of seed and fertilizer. We suggest that producers consult their local agronomist to establish acceptable fertilizer rates for their unique seeding conditions. Separation is both vertical and horizontal. Fertilizer is placed in a narrow band below and between the paired seed rows.• Narrow 1/2" wide fertilizer knife results in lower disturbance and more precise fertilizer placement than other paired-row designs, resulting in complete fertilizer/seed separation in most conditions.• The modular design allows only the worn part to be replaced. Carbide is used on all main wear surfaces to prolong the life of your investment. The tip can be adjusted to deliver fertilizer either as deep as 1 1/2" or, for less separation, 3/4". The choice is up to you. The diagram shown is typical of what has been observed in actual field trials with the Titan paired-row. Because soil and operating conditions can vary, exact placement may not be achieved in all situations.Third Party TestingIn the spring of 2005, PAMI was contracted to evaluate the Titan’s performance against a popular competitor’s paired-row opener. Separate plots of wheat and Canola were seeded with various applications of urea fertilizer ranging from 0 to 120 lbs per acre on 10" shank spacing. Following crop emergence, plant counts were done and recorded. The following conclusion was written:Based on limited field testing with canola and wheat it can be concluded that the agronomic performance of the Bourgault Tillage Tools prototype paired-row opener is equal to and slightly superior to the "competitor’s" paired-row opener.1-1/2"C-Shank47 & 50 degreeFITSPaired Row NH3 Paired Row - NH3 MaX-QuipFITS C-Shank 47 & 50 degree FITS C-Shank 47 & 50 degree 620-ASY-5020M620-ASY-502037www.tillagetools.comEDGE-ONPages 40-4738 BTTImportant Edge-On Accessories680-ACC-0001Spacer plate is required for the Concord when installing any Edge-On product.Sold separately. 680-ACC-0002 680-ACC-0003Spacer plate is required when installing the 680-ASY-4020 on the Bourgault 3310 & 3320. Multi-Shoot Openers - Titan SeriesEDGE-ONGRANULAR628-ASY-5010 628-ASY-5015GRANULARPaired Row Granular Single Row Granular46 BTT Please Refer to the Assemblies Section (page 88)• The Titan's Paired-Row design places seed and fertilizer (Granular or NH3 - NH3 with attachment) in separate rows in a single-pass. Separation is both vertical and horizontal. Fertilizer is placed in a narrow band below and between the paired seed rows.• Narrow 1/2" wide fertilizer knife results in lower disturbance and more precise fertilizer placement than other paired-row designs, resulting in complete fertilizer/seed separation in most conditions• The modular design allows only the worn part to be replaced. Carbide is used on all main wear surfaces to prolong the life of your investment. For replacement parts see assembly page 88.Equipment Requirements• Seeding system must be set up to Double-Shoot seed and fertilizer in separate distribution• Shank trip initial tension of 450 lbs. or greater is required• On-row packing is recommended; minimum packer width should be 3-1/2"• The seed and granular tubes for these knives accept 1-1/8" - 1-1/4" hoses• Note: The Titan Series opener is not recommended with the Bourgault 3310 or 3320 Air Drill. Seed/Fertilizer Placement The Titan Series is unique in that it gives you the flexibility to choose your fertilizer depth. Separate plots of wheat and Canola were seeded with various applications of urea fertilizer ranging from 0 to 120 lbs per acre on 10? shank spacing. Following crop emergence, plant counts were done and recorded. The following conclusion was written:Based on limited field testing with canola and wheat it can be concluded that the agronomic performance of the Bourgault Tillage Tools prototype paired-row opener is equal to and slightly superior to the (competitor’s) paired-row opener.Rear View As the direct seeding industry evolves, unique shank styles are being developed by Air Drill Manufacturers. Bourgault Tillage Tools is dedicated to building openers that fit these new shanks. You can now be assured the quality you have come to trust in BTT openers will be available on your choice of Air Drills, no matter the color. 48 BTT· Ultra-Low Draft· No Seedbed Fracturing· Less Soil Disturbance· Carbide on Tip and Wings· Replaceable Tip· Virtually No Plugging· Smoother Field Finish· Even Germination· Seed & Fertilizer Separation1www.tillagetools.com"We made the switch to the side band openers two years ago and haven't looked back. Stubble plugging, excessive soil fracturing and poor field finish are some of the comments that we have heard. Our specifically designed openers allow producers to remove the rear shank completely and deliver both seed and fertilizer down the same opener. Now you can have all the benefits of the Seed Hawk machine with the quality that comes with Bourgault Tillage Tools Advantage Series Openers and the ability to get the job done with half as many shanks. In order to properly install the 686 opener on your Seed Hawk shank you must first remove the rear fertilizer shank. Our opener is then installed on the front shank. Seed Boots60The quick change seed boot system consists of two parts: the seed boot holder which bolts on to the back of the shank and the seed boot attachment which fits into the holder and is secured with a bolt and nut (300-BNC-4414). There are six different interchangeable attachments to choose from each giving a different seed spread pattern. This system allows you to match your seed spread to the width of opener you are using; it is perfect for producers who want to switch back and forth from a wide seed spread behind a sweep to a narrow seed band behind a knife. For knives that fit this system see pages 24 - 25.There are four different holders available to fit different types of shanks. Each of these holders can be used with any of the attachments. These holders are designed to accept 1-1/8" (28 mm) O.D. air hose. For 1-1/4" (31 mm) O.D. air hose a bushing 300-BSH-1200 must be used. A self-tapping screw 911-SCR-1051 should be used to hold the air hose or the bushing into the seed boot holder. If the material used doesn't set the sweep apart then what makes the difference in the life and quality of a sweep? Precise Heat Treatment All Bourgault Tillage Tools sweeps are formed from Boron Steel and are heat treated in a closely monitored process that ensures a consistent and uniform microstructure and hardness. A recent metallurgical test confirmed that our sweeps have a fully tempered Martensitic Microstructure. This means our sweeps have been heat treated to obtain the maximum combination of wear resistance and durability. Long Lasting Design Our Parallel Wing design means the sweep will maintain its original width throughout the sweep’s entire wear life. The superior Crown Design ensures the nose stays sharp as the sweep wears. This is important for good penetration in tough conditions.Consistent Quality BTT has always been dedicated to providing top quality in all of the products it manufacturers. Our rigorous Quality Assurance procedures ensure every sweep you purchase is held to the highest standards and will always fit or your money back. Innovative Speed Loc The patented Speed-LocTM system is one of the most innovative products on the market. With the upper stop and pin design you can rest assured your sweeps will stay at a consistent depth and stay on the shank. The narrow stem on these sweeps throws less soil and leaves a smoother field finish than conventional bolt-on sweeps. This extended stem allows us to punch the bolt holes higher than on any other brand of sweeps. This reduces stem breaking and also results in less wear on the shank and less wear and stone damage to the bottom bolt. Less wear on the shank extends the useful life of the sweep and less stone damage on the bottom bolt means fewer problems when changing shovels.
